Most of us at some stage have suffered from painfully slow downloads and the causes can be various. More often than not though one of the biggest culprits is bandwidth throttling by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) particularly at peak usage periods such as evenings and weekends.

Bandwidth throttling is when an ISP purposely restricts the amount of bandwidth that you’re using in order minimize traffic congestion.

As HD video streaming and other bandwidth heavy applications demand more and more bandwidth, users are increasingly noticing the squeeze being put on them.

Another factor is theoretical maximum network speeds are not real-life speeds.

During peak hours, packet loss problems, oversold bandwidth, and oversold servers, are emphasized and magnified. If your ISP is not managing its demand correctly, you are most likely to discover it during Internet peak hours.

We suggest completing a speed test during both Off peak and at peak times which is obviously during the evenings till 1am.

Speedtest.net

Launch an additional Web browser tab or window. Navigate to the Speedtest.net website.

Close all running applications currently using an active Internet connection, especially any downloads or streaming media.
* 3

Click the “Begin Test” button to launch the speed test. Wait while Speedtest.net throttles your Internet connection through various tests to gauge your speed. Once done, your Internet speed will be displayed.

Last month, Pc Video Conference introduced it’s own video web conferencing test for customers and attendees to diagnose a series of possible issues relating to audio video conferencing and actually tests the specific conference room.
